In the Rule, St. Benedict reminds his monks that ideally their life should be a perpetual Lent. Acknowledging this, St. Benedict exhorts his monks to keep themselves pure and wash away their negligences during the holy season. Lent is the traditional period of 40 days of fasting and preparation leading up to Holy Week. The Lenten rosary is designed to represent that season. The rosary is made with Black onyx to represent the darkness of our sins. Purple Mountain Jade is used in the decade accent to represent the traditional color of Lent. The Ecce Homo center is used along with the Pardon Crucifix. When blessed with a simple blessing of the cross, indulgences can be received by kissing this crucifix and by other actions.
